I Got You Babe

The controversial (to some) Olsen October has come to an end and I’m kind of sad because it was such a fun month/project. And I really loved my Olsen header.

Mary Kate & Ashley are my true favorites and fashion icons and I had the best time looking through thousands of their pictures and making all the mood boards, collages and posts.

So to keep the Olsen spirit alive in Überchic, from now on I will feature in the sidebar Olsen Watch with their latest trendsetting looks.

And for this post I’ll leave you with pictures of MK & Ash together because, really, what would one be without the other?

“It’s not the usual thing for celebrities of any age to actually have style, personal style, that is unique and individual and achieved on their own. But the Olsens, love it or hate it, do have style; they have it in buckets. While they have stopped with the corny matching outfits, their looks have developed as jarring mirror images of one another; they still exist in a little world of two. But there are subtle differences: Mary-Kate might wear ten kooky rings, Ashley just two or three.

Their signature look mixes Edie Beale with Balenciaga, Johnny Depp, and John Galliano. They don’t wear clothes that are conspicuously slutty or sexy or easy to predict. Even though supermarket tabloids condemn them to worst-dressed lists, fashion people are obsessed with their arms-open embrace of the industry’s avant-garde. They experiment with proportion and silhouette. They mix vintage and new, labels and non. They’ve raised accessorizing to a form of high, glamorous art. If the Olsens’ style resembles anyone at all, it’s not Lindsay Lohan or Mandy Moore or any of their other presumptive peers—they dress like sittings editors at French Vogue.”

Influence Is Out Today!

So what are you doing reading this? You should be in your way to the bookstore! Or if you already have it you should be reading that instead!

Still reading? Well since I can’t persuade you here are some new Olsen Treats.

Mary Kate & Ashley Rock The Front Row

What’s Mine Is Yours

While they are obviously not sharing their studded Christian Louboutins, there are certain items that have gone from Mary Kate to Ashley and vice versa.

Even if they have different styles Mary Kate has said: “If I sleep over at my sister’s, I can definitely get dressed from her closet in the morning.”

Mary Kate & Ashley Drive In Style

Well that’s it for today because I am rushing to my nearest bookstore!

The Many Loves of Ashley Olsen

While MK has many looks, Ashley Olsen’s style has been very consistent through the years. Ashley knows what she likes, what works for her, what is eternally chic and she sticks to it: the true definition of style.

So now we look at the many sartorial loves of Ashley and her timeless style.

Mary Kate Teaches You How To Wear A Hoodie

Hoodies can look very sloppy and boring, adjectives never used to describe Mary Kate Olsen. Here she demonstrates 3 different ways of wearing a hoodie with attitude to spare.

100 Posts!

So this is my 100th post! Can you believe it? ohh I can't. Thanks to all my readers: those who comment and those who just stop by for fun/inspiration/whatever. Love you! (almost as much as my wardrobe.)

Olsen Necessities

Although they change their styles regularly, there are certain items that have been long associated with each Olsen and one with both.

MK’s Red Chanel

Mary Kate Olsen loves a red Chanel 2.55 so much she even wrote an article for the New York Times about it! She claims it was Ashley’s but I’ve yet to find a picture of her with it.

Brand Loyalty
By Mary Kate Olsen

“I have a large, red quilted Chanel bag that I borrowed from my sister Ashley. I wore it to an event and never gave it back. Luckily, she's moved on to another bag, so I'm safe for now. I'm not quite sure how many bags I have, but let's just say I have a few. When I find a bag I like, I tend to wear it to death until I become obsessed with another one. This probably happens three to five times a year. But I always come back to the Chanel. The size isn't overwhelming, and it has enough subtle detail to keep it interesting.

I also have the smaller version in blue and in white, but the red is definitely my favorite. I don't have a stylist — I'd rather just do my own thing and put together my own outfits. The chain-handle bag is the perfect accent to almost any combination I come up with. I look at everything with a designer's eye, but I wouldn't change a thing about this bag. I think that's why it's a true classic.”

Ash’s Black Fendi

Ashley instead has long been seen with a black Fendi tote but she has yet to write a love letter to it.

And of course, Mary Kate & Ashley cannot live without a Venti cup from Starbucks. They run on coffee, not water, didn’t you know?

Ashley Olsen Teaches You How To . . .

Like the true fashion icon she is, Ashley Olsen doesn’t mind taking sartorial risks when getting dressed. Here she puts two risky pieces to the test and gives plaid a more formal makeover. Passing with flying colors, of course.

Wear Denim on Denim
Simple but rockin' black accessories keep this look uncomplicated.

Dress Up Plaid
Unlike MK, Ashley dresses up her plaid shirt with a structured blazer and stylish accessories.

Wear a Military Green Jacket
Military green is such a hard color to pull of, Ash knows black and grey are the necessary hues for making it look chic and less Luke Danes-ish.

The Many Looks Of Mary Kate Olsen

Mary Kate Olsen is a true fashion chameleon; drastically changing her looks every now and then.

Here we take a closer look at some of her most recognizable street styles.

Nonetheless MK favors a particular silhouette in al her red carpet dresses: cinched waist and roomy sleeves.

So which one of Mary Kate’s look is your favorite?

Olsen Controversy: Fur

Mary Kate and Ashley are always sporting the most beautiful furs, but not everyone is ok with that. They have been targeted by some animal right groups for wearing fur and using it in their fashion line The Row. I am all for fur but tell me: what do you think about the issue?

Überchic Presents: Olsen October

In an era when the title gets thrown around too easily Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are true fashion icons. They are individuals who don’t follow trends but have unique style, never caring about what people might think, dressing for themselves and no one else.

So while we wait and hold our breath for the release of their fist book Influence, this month will be dedicated exclusively to MK and Ash and their style. With polls, retrospectives and how to’s, it will be a very busy and exiting month.

And remember; every time you have a sartorial dilemma, ask yourself what I always ask myself: What would the Olsens do?
